Basic Motherboard Functions & What they are used for?

1) Back Panel shows the connector on the back of the computer e.g Audio, USB , Parallel printer port, Mouse & Keyboard port.
2) PCI Express Slots are this Generation slots, mainly for Video cards or other various cards.
3) ATX Power connector is the connector in which one of the power rail connectors from the main power supply is connected to.
4) PCI Slots are slots that you can have if you want install extras, such as a Modem, Video card, TV tuner card, Network card, Firewire etc.
5) USB 2 Headers are pins in which are connected to the front panel wires of an ATX case, which uses the USB ports.
6) FDD Headers are connected to the Floppy disk drive using a Floppy cable.
7) Serial ATA Headers are used to connect SATA harddrives using a Sata cable
8) IDE Headers are used to connect IDE hardrives using a HDD cables.
9) DDR 2 DIMM Memory slots are used to install DDR ram
10) And finally, the Socket 775 Connector is the main slot for the intel CPU to be inserted into.
